There’s no denying it — this week’s Money magazine article confirms what we all know — Harrison, NY is one of the nation’s best places to live! Ranked as number 70 in the top 100 countdown, Harrison was cited for its extremely low crime rate, nationally ranked schools and large scale employers including PepsiCo, MasterCard and Morgan Stanley.

There are some great comparison tools in the article as well, take a moment to click the “Compare Harrison” link and you’ll see it’s job growth, state tax and insurance rate stats compared against the list’s top 10. There’s also a plethora of quality-of-life stats at the bottom of the article including median age, test scores, number of area restaurants, crime rate, temperature  — all compared against the median of the entire 100 list.

Model of climbing structure by renowned designer Thomas Luckey to be built at WCM

What better reason to renovate the historic 1928 bathhouses along the boardwalk at Rye Playland than to house the new Westchester Children’s Museum!  Calling the move “the perfect example of a public private partnership,” Westchester County Legislator Judy Myers (D-Mamaroneck) applauded this month’s unanimous approval of this long-awaited and volunteer-driven project.

Westchester County intends to restore the structure for public use, while the Museum will build out the interior space with exhibits, multi-use classrooms, a performance theater, cafe and retail space. The Grand Opening is planned for 2013.

So far, the Museum has raised over $8,000,000 for the project, and continues to seek donations to complete the project. Until they open their doors to the public, they are currently operating as a “museum without walls” offering their science, technology, engineering and math focused programs through local community centers and YMCA/YWCAs.

Learn more about these projects today by taking a virtual tour or watching a video of the Museum programs in action.
